LENA ENGELSTEIN is a choreographer, dancer, and director based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been dubbed “The High Weird” by critics, and they've said in her pieces the "absurd and the mundane swap places until you have no idea why you’re staring at something." Recent work includes: American Idle Concept and Dir. by Maia Chao, commissioned by Times Square Arts (choreographer), Friday Night Rat Catchers (March 2025 at New York Live Arts, w/Lisa Fagan), Deepe Darknesse (Jan 2024 in New York Live Arts’ Live Artery and June 2023 at The Collapsable Hole w/Lisa Fagan), all i want is what you want (Mar 2022 in Exponential Festival w/Jo Warren). She received a 2025 NYSCA Grants to Artists in Choreography and she and Lisa Fagan are recipients of the 2025 Foundation for Contemporary Art's Artists Grant in Dance. Engelstein was the inaugural Theater and Dance Alumni Resident at Colorado College in the Fall of 2025. She has taught at Colorado College, Barnard College, Ground Works (NY), The Field Center (VT), ODC (CA), University of Maryland, Colorado Mesa University, among other institutions. Recent performance credits include: Adult Relationships by Ben Gassman, Oceanic Feeling by Faye Driscoll, They All Lived There by Isa Spector, 1-800-3592-113592 by performance collective CHILD headed by Lisa Fagan, Then She Fell by Third Rail Company (2019-2020). Lena holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Colorado College.
